Caroline Jeannerat examines the archive of the early 20th century Lutheran church in the Soutpansberg to understand how people describe their own faith and that of others, and how these accounts differ from the missionaries' understanding.

Dr Caroline Jeannerat worked as a postdoctoral researcher at WISER, University of the Witwatersrand (2007–2009) and at the Centre for Culture and Languages in Africa, University of Johannesburg (2009–2011). From 2011–2013 she taught history at the St Augustine College of South Africa. Currently she is a freelance academic copy-editor and proofreader and copy-editor for Anthropology Southern Africa and South African Historical Journal.
