Bryce Courtenay was born in 1933 in a village in the Lembombo Mountains in Limpopo, South Africa. After studying journalism in London, he emigrated to Australia in 1958 and entered the advertising industry. The Power of One was his debut novel. His later novels include Tandia, The Night Country and Whitehorn. He died in 2012.
