Fredericks (J.) dir. DEVIOUS SHORT FILM, 18 minutes
The story of rapper Mario van Rooy aka Mr Devious (1997-2004), who lived and worked in Mitchell's Plain. He saw himself as a "hip-hop activist" and worked in creative education with youth at risk in Cape Flats communities. At the age of 26 he was stabbed to death by a gangster when he tried to help his father who was being robbed.

The Songs Worth Singing, Words Worth Saying Project in Cape Town sees music and poetry as a powerful way for children from different communities to learn about each others lives and cultures. Through a series of summer music and poetry workshops, panel discussions and seminars young people in Cape Town were exposed to the different musical and poetry traditions of the various cultural groups in the Western Cape.
This educational resource, consisting of DVD, CD and E-Songbook, includes the performances of seven musical groups and ten young poets from communities such as Kensington, Nyanga, Khayelitsha.
